Case study from October 2022

Hermes Germany GmbH, based in Hamburg, is a leading logistics service provider in Germany and a partner to numerous online stores and multi-channel retailers in Germany and abroad. As a logistics partner for mail order and online retail, Hermes offers convenient shipping solutions and services for shipments of 300 parcels or more per year.

Every month, Hermes Germany receives several hundred inquiries from online retailers interested in working with us. Some of these differ considerably in terms of size, turnover, shipping volume and legal form. One of the conditions for concluding a contract is payment by invoice. However, this involves high risks. A credit check is therefore essential before concluding a contract in order to prevent payment defaults.

The decisive factors for the decision to award the contract were the price-performance ratio as well as the well-founded and reliable check results for almost all retailers of all sizes and legal forms from the unique SCHUFA database.

SCHUFA's solutions support mass business and enable almost complete automation of the verification process.

If a case needs to be processed manually, SCHUFA also offers its contractual partners the option of simply viewing further necessary information online.

As part of the registration of small business customers with up to 75,000 shipments per year, Hermes Germany now uses the SCHUFA brief information service (B2B) with a cascading search in the person database if, for example, individual tradespeople are not yet included in the company database. The queries are made technically via a modern REST interface (API) from ClariLab, a subsidiary of SCHUFA.

In addition to other parameters defined by Hermes Germany, the score or creditworthiness index is used as the basis for the automated decision to "approve/reject/manually check".

Scores in the borderline range are post-processed manually with information from the SCHUFA Web. Hermes Germany determined the limits of the score values with the help of SCHUFA expertise and optimized them in the following months based on the specific registrations.
