Identity fraud is essentially the unauthorized use of an existing person's data by third parties to exploit that person's creditworthiness. The fraud is often only discovered at a very late stage, usually when debts are already in arrears and dunning proceedings have been initiated.
Have you been the victim of identity fraud? SCHUFA offers private individuals the opportunity to protect themselves against further misuse of their personal data.
To do this, you can register with SCHUFA as a victim of identity fraud. The information that you have been the victim of identity fraud will be made available to companies that are SCHUFA contract partners in the event of new applications or existing contracts relating to you.
In this way, you can reduce the risk of your personal data being used for fraud attempts. You can find out more about identity fraud victim protection at SCHUFA and the requirements for registration in our information sheet.
This is how it works:
Read the information sheet on registering as a victim of identity fraud with SCHUFA carefully. Then complete the consent form for registering identity fraud available for download in full and enclose copies of your identity document and proof that a criminal complaint has been filed, stating the allegation of fraud. Please note: A confirmation of receipt from an online police station without a clear reference to your person and the associated allegation of fraud is not sufficient proof. We require a certificate of complaint from the relevant police station.
Your identity must be verified to prevent third parties from submitting applications in your name. To do this, we need a copy of the front and back of your ID document with a photo (e.g. ID card or passport including registration certificate). You can black out any details not required for identification, such as eye color and height. Once the identification process is complete, copies of your ID documents will be destroyed in accordance with data protection regulations.
Please note: We can only save the data if we have all the documents completed in full.
