For nearly 100 years, SCHUFA has been answering one question: “Can the customer pay?” But SCHUFA is more than just creditworthiness. In the digital world, it also answers the question: “Does the customer even want to pay?” SCHUFA supports consumers and businesses with various solutions for fraud prevention. Take the new SCHUFA Account, for example: In addition to the new score, we offer IdentSafe Basis—a free tool to check whether your personal data has been published on the internet, the dark web, or the deep web in the past 90 days. We raise awareness—for example, during the SCHUFA Protection Weeks—with a campaign about online fraud and identity theft. Identity protection is everyone’s concern. According to SCHUFA surveys, 26 percent of people in Germany have been victims of fraud at least once. More than half have suffered financial losses—in some cases amounting to five-figure sums. Our surveys also show that public awareness of online fraud is disproportionately low compared to the actual risks involved. That’s why we want to educate people about different types of fraud, scams, protective measures, and sources of assistance.
