SCHUFA has developed a new score made up of twelve criteria. One of them is called the age of the most recent credit line. You can find out how this criterion will affect your creditworthiness in future here.

  • Subject of the criterion: Age of the most recent framework loan
  • Points in the score: 0 to 36 points
  • Allocation of the minimum number of points: Framework loan less than one year old
  • Allocation of maximum points: Framework loan older than two years/ no framework loan

A line of credit is a flexible loan where you can draw down and repay money up to a fixed amount at any time - interest is only charged on the amount used. It works in a similar way to an overdraft facility, but often offers better conditions and higher amounts.

A credit line can generally be used flexibly and is useful for unexpected financial burdens. However, it extends the scope for getting into debt very widely. This entails risks that can affect your ability to pay. For this reason, a credit line initially worsens the score, but over time it improves again because you have proven that you can meet your financial obligations.

Important to know: For some banks, changing the credit line still results in the credit line being assessed as a new loan. SCHUFA is working on a technical solution for this issue.

Age of the most recent framework credit

Anyone who takes out a new credit line receives zero points for their score in the first year. After one year, the score improves by 16 points, and by 36 points after two years. For people who do not have a credit line, 36 points are added to the score.
