On our dashboard, we provide the current evaluations of payment disruptions for each district in 2023 in an interactive map. The following events are highlighted:

  • The north-south divide: At the end of 2023, SCHUFA had (at least) one negative feature stored for a rounded average of 8.5 percent of all people over the age of 18 in Germany. There were proportionately more people with negative characteristics in the north of Germany than in the south.
  • Bringing up the rear: As in previous years, the proportion of people with payment difficulties was highest in Bremen and Berlin in 2023, at around 11.6% in Bremen and around 10.6% in Berlin.
  • The frontrunners: Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg were ahead in 2023. In these two federal states, SCHUFA recorded the fewest payment difficulties in relation to the total population in these federal states. The proportion of people for whom SCHUFA had (at least) one negative feature stored reached around 6.3 percent in Bavaria and around 6.9 percent in Baden-Württemberg.
  • The role model: at 3.8%, Eichstätt is the district with the lowest proportion of people with at least one negative characteristic. At the lowest end of the scale is the district of Donau-Rieß, where 19.1% of people have at least one negative characteristic.

The number of people with new payment problems in May was also higher than in the same period in 2024.

New payment disruptions

The number of new loan agreements rose in May and is on a par with the previous year.

New loan agreements

In April 2025, SCHUFA had stored at least one negative characteristic for 8.2% of tradespeople, freelancers or registered traders in Germany. This means that the negative rate for companies in the new year is higher than in the previous year.

During the crisis years, the contractual servicing of loans by tradespeople, freelancers and registered traders has not deteriorated.

Negative quota

The volume of inquiries for corporate loans fell in almost all sectors in May 2025.
Demand for credit is below the previous year's figure from 2024.
The sectors are defined according to the 2008 Classification of Economic Activities (WZ 2008) of the Federal Statistical Office.
